Primary

Children ages 2.5 to 6 years old comprise the Primary community. Younger students learn from older students and older classmates gain leadership skills. The children solidify their understanding and knowledge by teaching each other. The Montessori teacher prepares the environment and fades into the background.

Students in the Primary Community learn actively in indoor and outdoor spaces, designed to provide freedom of movement and the ability to choose their activities. A Montessori teacher observes each child’s readiness and mastery of lessons to guide them onward. The children learn at their own pace through self-correcting materials, observation, discovery and interaction. Group experiences are part of each day, building community while encouraging social skills.

Students in the Primary Community develop a love of their school community and of learning.
